I Have Upset the Twitter Gods and Am In Limbo. Rethinking Twitter Alternatives.

Twitter has always acted buggy for me. I don’t always see all my replies. I sometimes don’t even see all of my own tweets. I’ve only recently been able to access and manage my Twitter lists. Twitter even sometimes unfollows me from people. I know Twitter is doing a lot of updates and adjustments behind the scene’s and so I try not to complain too much. But then things started getting weird this week.

At first I noticed that I wasn’t getting many replies but I would see them if I searched for my own username, tacanderson. I started getting a few messages from friends asking what was going on with my Twitter account and why was it acting weird. At first I thought maybe one of the many applications I use to manage my account was freaking out and posting weird stuff. At worst I thought maybe my account had finally been hacked (something I’m proud to say has never happened).

Then people started telling me my profile, @tacanderson, wasn’t showing up on Twitter. So I started looking into it myself and while I can still post and reply to people and people can still see my tweets my profile doesn’t seem to exist. It’s weird because I can see my own profile but others can’t. It’[s almost like my account has kind of been suspended but not fully. If that's the case I don't know what I would have done to trigger it.

Hopefully it get's resolved soon because this state of limbo sucks. I will tell you that it's making me rethink how I use Twitter and weather I should set up a Tumblr or Status.net account that feeds my Twitter account so content isn't lost if this continues to be a problem. I've filed a support ticket and tweeted out to @Support and a few other accounts but haven't heard anything yet. We'll see what happens.

[UPDATE] The @tacanderson is now completely gone. I don’t know if Twitter can reinstate it but it turns out that according to @SG I have a rare virus. (Thanks to @kegill for the shout out.)

@kegill thanks for raising this. It would seem that @tacanderson is suffering from a strange & very rare bug that disappears the account

Hi Tac! If it is of any help, your profile is fine within the “list” functionality. I can see and click on your profile from within my Polymath List that you are on, but no access by adding your name to the Twitter URL. Hope you get this resolved soon! Was wondering if related to you crossing the pond. Hope you and your family on doing well in the UK!
